Our Favorite Gear for Film – What's in Our Bag
At S47, we believe that great storytelling starts with great tools. While we don't have a massive inventory of gear, we've carefully curated a setup that allows us to deliver cinematic, high-quality visuals for every project. From weddings to real estate to commercial shoots, our gear has been battle-tested and proven reliable.
We're often asked what equipment we use, so we decided to share our current setup. It's not the most extravagant collection, but it works beautifully for what we do, and we love every piece of it. Here's what's in our bag.
Cameras: The Heart of Our Setup
Sony FX30 – Our Video Workhorse
For video production, we rely on the Sony FX30. This camera is a beast when it comes to cinematic footage. Its Super 35 sensor delivers incredible image quality, excellent low-light performance, and stunning dynamic range. We love the FX30 for its professional features like timecode, dual card slots, and its lightweight design, which makes it perfect for run-and-gun shoots. Whether we're capturing a wedding, a commercial, or a music video, the FX30 never disappoints.
Sony a7R II – Our Photography Powerhouse
For stills, we turn to the Sony a7R II. This camera may be a bit older, but it still packs a punch with its 42.4-megapixel full-frame sensor. The detail and resolution we get from this camera are incredible, making it ideal for wedding portraits, real estate photography, headshots, and editorial shoots. The dynamic range and color science are top-tier, and it continues to be a reliable workhorse for all our photography needs.
Lenses: The Glass That Shapes Our Vision
Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 – Our Versatile Zoom
This lens is our go-to for almost everything. The focal range covers wide-angle to telephoto, making it incredibly versatile for run-and-gun shoots. Whether we're capturing a wide establishing shot or zooming in for intimate details, the Tamron 28-200mm delivers sharp, beautiful images. It's our everyday lens for weddings, events, and real estate.
Sony 50mm f/1.8 – The Portrait King
For portraits, we love the Sony 50mm. The fast aperture gives us that beautiful shallow depth of field and creamy bokeh that makes subjects pop. It's our favorite lens for wedding portraits, headshots, and any shoot where we want to create a dreamy, cinematic look.
Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 – The Wide-Angle Specialist
For ultra-wide shots, the Rokinon 12mm is our secret weapon. It's perfect for real estate interiors, tight spaces, and dramatic architectural shots. The manual focus takes some getting used to, but the image quality and wide field of view make it worth the effort.
Stabilization: Smooth Moves Every Time
DJI RS 3 Gimbal
We use the DJI RS 3 for smooth, cinematic camera movement. This gimbal is lightweight, easy to set up, and incredibly responsive. Whether we're walking through a wedding venue, tracking a subject, or capturing a real estate walkthrough, the RS 3 delivers buttery-smooth footage every time.
Monitor: Director’s Dream
Hollyland Pyro 7 Wireless System with Pyro S Transmitter and Receiver
Great video deserves great audio. We use the Hollyland Pyro 7 wireless system for reliable, broadcast-quality audio capture. Whether we're recording vows, interviews, or behind-the-scenes content, this system ensures clear, interference-free sound. The range and battery life are excellent, making it a staple on all our shoots.
Lighting: Shaping the Mood
Neewer RGB CB60 70W CRI 97+ LED Video Light
Lighting is everything, and the Neewer RGB CB60 is our go-to light for both video and photo shoots. With 70W of power and a CRI of 97+, it delivers accurate, vibrant colors and beautiful skin tones. The RGB functionality allows us to get creative with colors for music videos and creative projects, while the adjustable brightness and temperature make it perfect for portraits, interviews, and commercial work.
Godox SK400II-V 400Ws Studio Flash
For still photography, we rely on the Godox SK400II-V. With 400Ws of power, this studio flash delivers consistent, powerful lighting for portraits, headshots, and commercial work. The built-in Godox wireless system makes it easy to trigger and control remotely, and the fast recycle time ensures we never miss a moment. It's a reliable workhorse that gives us studio-quality light wherever we go.
Godox Flash TT520 II with Round Reflector
For on-the-go lighting, we use the Godox TT520 II flash. This compact, portable flash is perfect for weddings, events, and outdoor shoots where we need extra fill light or creative flash effects. The included round reflector gives us soft, even light distribution with beautiful catchlights in our subjects' eyes, making it ideal for portraits and event photography.
Neewer C Stand
Every light needs a solid stand, and we trust the Neewer C Stand to hold our gear securely. It's durable, stable, and built to last. Whether we're rigging a light, a boom, or a reflector, this C stand handles it all.
Drone: Aerial Perspectives
DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone
For stunning aerial shots, we use the DJI Mini 4 Pro. This drone is compact, lightweight, and incredibly capable. It captures stunning 4K footage and 48MP stills, making it perfect for real estate property tours, venue establishing shots, and creative projects. Its obstacle avoidance and intelligent flight modes give us peace of mind while flying, and the image quality is nothing short of impressive.
Filters: Protecting and Enhancing
K&F Concept ND Filters – 82mm and 49mm
Neutral density filters are essential for controlling light and achieving cinematic motion blur. We use K&F Concept ND filters in 82mm and 49mm sizes to fit our lenses. These filters are high-quality, easy to use, and allow us to shoot wide open in bright conditions without overexposing. They're a must-have for outdoor shoots, especially weddings and real estate.
What's Next?
We're constantly growing and evolving as a studio. While our current setup serves us well, we plan to add more gear as we continue to expand. We're eyeing new lenses, additional lighting, and maybe a few surprises along the way. But for now, this setup allows us to deliver the cinematic, high-quality visuals our clients love.
